International Foods At International Foods' South St. Louis facility, the timely arrival of bulk ingredients by rail car is paramount. This lifeline was threatened in 1995 by the settling of rail support pedestals in the unloading area.

After consulting with various structural and geotechnical engineering firms, FASTEEL® was brought in to lift the settled pedestals back to their original elevations. CDG Engineers Architects Planners, Inc. determined the load data and consulted FASTEEL® in this design of a piering system.

The system involved five piers per pedestal, each with three helices (8"-10"-12") mounted on 1¾" square shafts. Special bracket assemblies were designed and fabricated to adequate-ly transfer the bearing load to the piers. T-pipes at the surface were filled with epoxy for added bending strength. After lifting, voids were filled by mudjacking. International Foods
International Foods Downtime of the unloading area was kept under three days and cleanliness of the jobsite allowed the rest of the plant to run without interruption
